Advanced Optis

Boats: Optis. Sometimes in Sunfish and/or other boats for fun.

Our Advanced Opti class is focused on speed and performance in Optis. Sailors will learn how to sail efficiently on all points of sail and will fine tune the racing skills that they learned in Intermediate Optis. Sailors will have the opportunity to learn how to sail-surf, team race, and attend regattas if they are interested. While our lessons will focus on skills and strategies that are conducive to racing, the emphasis will remain on fostering a fun, low stress environment for our sailors. Children in this class are expected to have their own Optis. We have a limited quantity of club Optis that may be rented for a fee during the registration process, but used Optis are also widely available around the Cape for purchase. It generally takes 2 complete sailing seasons for children to advance beyond this level, but since each sailor is unique, we approach advancement in a case by case basis. Sailors in Advanced Optis are expected to join Jr. Commodore Cup races on Wednesday afternoons from 1-3:30.
